First District District Attorney announces major drug and weapons operation in North Mississippi

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – A multi agency effort gets narcotics, illegal firearms and criminals off the streets throughout Lee County.

First District D. A. Jason Herring announced results of “Operation Reload,” a coordinated effort targeting high crime areas in Lee County.

Herring was joined at an afternoon press conference by MHP, MBN, the North Mississippi Narcotics Bureau, Lee County Sheriff Jim Johnson and investigators, and police chiefs from cities throughout the county.

The targeted enforcement resulted in 940 citations, 56 arrests for narcotics and illegal firearms and arrests for 35 other offenses. This is a follow up to last Summer’s “Operation Overload”, which led to arrests and convictions throughout the county.

District Attorney Jason Herring says the message is clear, those who break the law and traffic in illegal drugs and firearms , and other crimes will continue to feel the heat from law officers across the area.

“When law enforcement applies pressure in one area, criminal activity may attempt to relocate, drug dealers may change houses, cities or cross a county line, that does not mean a problem disappears, it means we are prepared and ready to follow it. ”

Herring also announced the next phase of targeted enforcement. “Operation Loadout” will expand into the seven counties served by the First District D.A.’s office.
