Former Aberdeen Principal Suing Former Conservator, School District
ABERDEEN, Miss. (WCBI) – The former principal of Aberdeen High School says he was fired for refusing to keep citizens from complaining about the newly appointed Superintendent.
Cloyd Garth is suing former conservator Mac Curlee and the district for discrimination and lack of due process.
Garth, who is black, applied for the superintendent’s post, but the Department of Education recommended Jeff Clay, who is white.
The suit claims Curlee expected the African-American community to be outraged over Clay’s pick, and that he told the former principal to keep the African-American community in line.
Garth told Curlee “no,” and says he was fired just days later for allegedly falsifying payroll records.
Garth wants his job back immediately, and is also seeking actual and punitive damages from the district. You can read the entire suit here.
