Former Alabama Police Chief Arrested
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) – Federal marshals have arrested a former Alabama police chief who didn’t show up to begin a stint in prison.
The U.S. Marshal’s Service says it arrested former Tallassee Police Chief Chris Miles on Thursday morning.
The 41-year-old Miles was supposed to report last week to begin serving a 41-month prison sentence for beating a suspect, selling drugs and making false statements. A manhunt began after Miles failed to show up.
Marshals say they arrested Miles after responding to a home in the east Alabama town of Notasulga. Officers took Miles into custody without incident and took him to the federal courthouse in Montgomery for a hearing before a U.S. magistrate judge.
Officials say Miles beat a man during an interrogation in April 2013 and then lied about it.
