STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — MSU’s quarterback race will be joined by a former area star beginning on Sunday.

Wyatt Roberts, the well-known quarterback from Louisville High School and East Mississippi Community College, is joining the Mississippi State football team as a walk-on and will be at practice with the Bulldogs on Sunday. Mississippi State has confirmed this addition.

Roberts, who gained national recognition in Netflix’s original documentary “Last Chance U”, will join the quarterback depth chart at Mississippi State as he competes with the three remaining Bulldogs fighting for the starting job.

After leading Louisville High School to the 2013 3A State Championship, Roberts was expected to attend Jacksonville State after verbally committing to the Gamecocks. He opted to join EMCC following graduation after being offered a preferred walk-on spot at Mississippi State.

In his most recent season in Scooba, Roberts passed for 2,197 yards and 23 touchdowns with just 2 interceptions. He shared time at quarterback as a sophomore with Auburn signee John Franklin III.

As a freshman, Roberts worked behind Ole Miss star Chad Kelly as the Lions won the 2014 National Championship.
