Former Starkville police officer to go to trial for exploitation of a child charge

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – A former Starkville Police Officer faced a judge Monday morning looking to enter a plea deal.

Charles Jordan, 35, faced a felony charge of exploitation of a child. The alleged incident dated back to 2016, when Jordan and another officer responded to a juvenile runaway report.

When officers responded, it was determined that the victim and her sister were staying at their grandma’s house and were okay.

Months later, Jordan allegedly contacted the victim to check on how she was doing since the runaway incident. From there, Jordan allegedly sent nude photographs and videos to the victim for an extended period of time.

The victim then reported the incident, where an investigation then took place. Jordan would then resign as an officer and has since pleaded guilty to the felony charge.

But the judge Monday morning denied a plea deal and has sent this case to trial due to the discrepancies on Jordan knowing the victim’s age at the time.

“You know I can’t let him plead guilty. Because I think this is a knowing that he would know she was under the age of 18. If he didn’t know she was under the age of 18 you still got to go to trial,” said Judge Jim Kitchens.

Jordan is set to go to trial Tuesday.
