The Golden Triangle Regional Airport Is Offering A TSA PreCheck Enrollment

LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – If you like the convenience of flying, but hate the inconvenience of the security check, you may want to consider a trip out to Golden Triangle Regional Airport.

They are hosting a TSA Enrollment event.

The Golden Triangle Regional Airport was the first regional airport in the country to offer pre-check as a part of screening.

The TSA Precheck program has been around for several years, but it’s the second time for it to be offered at the Golden Triangle Regional Airport.

“You basically get pre-screened ahead of time and so when you show up at the airport, you go through a different line, that’s shorter. You don’t have to take as much as your stuff off, you can leave sweaters on, your shoes on, things like that. So, it’s a great program and it’s a good opportunity for people to sign-up here locally,” says  Golden Triangle Regional Airport Executive Director, Mike Hainsey.

Before the Golden Triangle Regional Airport offered the enrollment, area fliers wanting to cut long lines had to drive to Birmingham, Jackson or Memphis, to sign up for the TSA Precheck program.

“We will sign you in and when you go through the whole process, basically, they’ll fingerprint you, do the background check, that type of thing, and make sure your application is right,” says Hainsey.

The biggest advantage of the program is the convenience factor and it helps take away the hassle of flying.

“I was at a conference in a large city recently, and the line for the regular, non-pre-check folks was 45 minutes, and for the pre-check line, there were two people ahead of me, so it was much more convenient,” says Hainsey.

It’s something flier, Margaret Baucom, is looking forward to, once she’s assigned to her Known Traveler Number that lets airports know she’s pre-screened.

“I’m looking forward to not standing in long lines and not having to take off shoes, jackets, just progressing a little faster.”

She and her husband fly a few times a year and the ten minute process was worth every minute to them.

“I have to wear a brace on my left leg, on account of some back surgeries, and I always have to take a few minutes longer to get through the lines and do the, take the brace off and the shoes off or whatever, so it’s going to work out well I think to be able to get through the line a little faster,” says Leslie Baucom.

The TSA Precheck enrollment at this airport will end on Friday.

It’s $85 for five years or less than $20 a year for this.
