Media outlets report that 37-year-old Homajean Grisham III had been charged with capital murder for the 2013 killing of his ex-wife, Jessica Broadfoot. After pleading guilty Friday to the lesser charge of murder, Grisham was sentenced to 30 years in prison.

Authorities say Grisham stabbed Broadfoot to death in his truck while driving near the Natchez Trace Parkway in June 2013. Her body was found on Grisham’s father’s property on Fossick Lane in Cherokee.

Grisham will be eligible for parole in 15 years, but Colbert County District Attorney Bryce Graham says his office will make sure Grisham serves the full 30 year sentence.

The plea deal was offered with the consent of Broadfoot’s family, Graham said.
