Gun violence victim families place ornaments to honor loved ones

WEST POINT, Miss. (WCBI) – The families of gun violence victims in West Point remember their lost loved ones with an ornament.

Loved ones hung pictures or other Christmas decorations on a tree in the lobby of the Clay County Court Complex.

The ceremony was the first Gun Violence Christmas Tree Dedication.

Law enforcement and prosecutors were also there to support the victim’s families.

A grieving mother got the idea and wanted to make sure other grieving families had support.

“My son was murdered in 2021 and so it has been a little over two years, and, so any opportunity I can get to shine a light on [the] gun crisis to try to bring an end to it then that’s what I’m going to do,” said Reita Humphries, dedication organizer.

Loved ones of a gun violence victim can place an ornament on the tree at the Clay County Court Complex if they were not able to make it to the event.
