Aspiring country music artist helping disabled veterans with an original song

Half of the proceeds from "Send Me' will go to the non profit '7 Days for the Troops'

TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – As Leah Rose was singing her song honoring veterans, Scott Burns was visiting with people at Tupelo’s Lone Star Schooner Bar and Grill, telling them about the non profit group he founded to help veterans. Burns was injured during his time in the Marines.   As a result of his injury, he has had both legs amputated below the knee.

“Seven Days for the Troops is a 501 c3 that does a lot of work to help veterans, providing mobility devices, housing needs, we try and find where there’s a gap in veterans needs and we help fill that gap,” Burns said.

Leah Rose had performed at 7 Days for the Troops events in the past, but wanted to do more to help the cause.  So she and her Dad wrote a song called “Send Me.”

“This song was an idea inspired by a family friend, he served in Khe Sanh, years later his son was deployed to Baghdad and at a going away party for his son, he mentioned that he wished they would send the guys who have already been there before, we thought that was an incredible sentiment that anyone who had been there before would say, ‘ hey please send me,” Rose said.

A release party for the single “Send Me” attracted a capacity crowd to the Lone Star Bar and Grill.  Leah Rose is donating fifty percent of proceeds from the song to 7 Days for the Troops.

“What I like about Leah, she is a young artist who decided she could use her talents to help others, and she could have done the song, sold it and made all the money herself, but she decided to do some good with it,” Burns said.

As Leah Rose pursues a career in country music she plans to continue helping those who have given so much for our freedoms.

“Hopefully we will be seeing bigger stages, and supporting 7 Days for the Troops ten years from now,” Rose said.
