Houston Native Chris Jones Headlines Mississippi State Draftees Friday

CHICAGO (WCBI Sports) – Former Mississippi State Bulldog Chris Jones’ dream came true Friday in Chicago at the NFL Draft. Will Redmond found a home, while Dak Prescott will wait at least one more day.

Tears were in Jones’ eyes when he found out his destination in Friday’s second round. The Kansas City Chiefs picked the defensive lineman, a Houston, MS, native, with the 37th overall pick, the sixth pick of the second round.

He danced as he walked out on stage and gave Roger Goodell a hug so jarring the commissioner’s head snapped backward on impact. Jones was the highest-drafted former Bulldog since Darius Slay in 2013.

Cornerback Will Redmond heard his name called Friday. The San Francisco 49ers took him in the third round with the 68th overall pick.

Quarterback Dak Prescott was not drafted in the second or third rounds. The fourth round begins Saturday at 11 a.m. CT.
4-29 Chris Jones
