“It feels great knowing that I will be able to continue my softball career,” said Watterson. “I’ve worked really hard for it and it’s always been my dream to keep going to a four-year [program].”

Watterson leads the North Division champion Lady Indians (31-10, 21-3 MACJC North) with a .423 batting average, .445 on-base percentage and .762 slugging percentage along with a team-best 9 home runs, 17 doubles, 38 RBIs and 55 hits while only striking out twice in 130 at-bats.

“Coach (Andy) Kirk has done a really good job with our workouts and getting me ready for the next level,” Watterson said about her time at ICC. “I’ve really enjoyed my two years here and wouldn’t change it for anything. I just want to thank my coaches, my teammates and my family for always standing behind me.”

As a freshman, she was named All-North Division honorable mention and was earned MACJC Player of the Week honors.

“We are extremely proud of Kory,” said Coach Kirk. “She came to us as a freshman with a goal to continue her career at a four-year program and not a day went by that she wasn’t working to achieve that dream. Delta State is getting a good one in Kory and we look forward to seeing her continue having great success for years to come.”

Earlier in the week, Watterson and the No. 17 Lady Indians won their third-straight MACJC North Division Championship with a sweep of Coahoma Community College and extended their win streak to 13-straight games with a sweep of East Mississippi Community College on Thursday.

Watterson becomes the third Lady Indian to play on the DI level, joining outfielder Jayla Hubbard (Pittsboro), who played at Ole Miss, and fellow third baseman Lara Andrews (Wellington, New Zealand) who continued her career at the University of Delaware.
