UPDATE: Juvenile in custody after shooting

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI)- Tupelo Police are investigating an incident involving a 12 year old child at an apartment complex.

Police say around five Friday evening, police were called the Oak Creek Apartments on Lumpkin Avenue. Once they arrived they found a 12 year old bleeding from the neck.

The child was taken to NMMC to be treated. Police say it’s unclear if the wound if from a gunshot or a knife.

The Criminal Investigation Division is on scene and will release more information as they learn more.

UPDATE- A tragic start to holiday weekend leave a 12 year old with a gunshot wound, and another in police custody.

Police say they were called to the Oak Creek Apartments around five Friday evening and found the child bleeding from the neck.

We’re told the 12 year old was shot and is in critical condition as of Saturday afternoon.

Police say an 11 year old is in custody and is charged with aggravated assault.

The shooting is still under investigation.
