Joint Legislative Panels To Begin Talks On Tax Policy, Budgets On Monday

JACKSON, Miss. (PRESS RELEASE) – Legislators will gather Monday morning to begin examining tax policy and agency spending as part of an effort to streamline government.

The panel to examine tax policy will meet at 10 a.m. Monday in Room 216 of the State Capitol. Speaker of the House Philip Gunn and Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves serve as co-chairmen of the legislative panel to review tax policy and provide recommendations to the Legislature.

Budget working groups will meet immediately afterwards at 11 a.m. to begin discussions on agency expenditures.

Lawmakers will examine spending for the state’s largest agencies, including the departments of Transportation, Health, Mental Health, Human Services, Corrections, Public Safety, Education, the Division of Medicaid, Institutions of Higher Learning, community colleges, boards and commissions, state facilities, and information technology consolidation.

Speaker Gunn and Lt. Gov. Reeves established the panels with the support of Gov. Phil Bryant to take a critical examination of state tax policy and agency expenditures.
