Video: Law Enforcement Agencies Working Together To Tackle Crime

MONROE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI)-After weeks of investigation, a stolen ATV from Itawamba County has been recovered in Monroe county.

The search started in Itawamba county, moved into Marion county in Alabama, and was finally found in Monroe county this morning.

Monroe County Sheriff Cecil Cantrell said it was team work that helped them recover the stolen ATV.

“What we’re trying to do is work together to show that we’re sending a message to the criminals that just because you steal in one county, doesn’t mean that we’re not watching and working together because we are,” said Sheriff Cantrell.

“Criminals don’t know county lines, and it’s important as law enforcement, we have to cross over those county lines and help each other and it works,” said Itawamba County Sheriff Chris Dickinson.

Dickinson said having departments work together is becoming more common.

“We’re on the phone with surrounding counties pretty much everyday spreading info,” he said.

“When departments work together you build goodwill,” said Cantrell.

Cantrell said with departments working together, it also helps spread good will throughout the communities.

“It sends a message to that not so good people that we are watching and working together,” he said. “Just because you steal something from one county that doesn’t mean anything, and get away with it.”

And quite simply, both sheriff’s said working together as a team helps solve more crime in a faster manner.

“It’s valuable being able to work together,” said Dickinson. “That’s important. Obviously, the citizens benefit from it, and law enforcement, it makes our jobs much easier when we’re working together.”

“It pays off,” said Cantrell. “It helps the people of our county and their county to have good strong law enforcement in our counties.”

Cantrell said he believes the recovery of the stolen ATV will lead to more arrests on several break-ins that’s occurred lately in Monroe and Itawamba counties.
