COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – It is never too early to start shopping for Christmas.  Stores throughout our area already have Christmas decorations and other gift items on display. One department store uses layaway so shoppers can purchase items early for Christmas.

Attention shoppers…your favorite Christmas items are now on display. Even though Halloween hasn’t come and gone, Christmas decorations, toys, and stockings are ready to be purchased. To some of us it may seem Christmas comes earlier every year, but one store manager says shipments always come early.

“It’s pretty much the same time. We are early set here at the store usually Christmas decorations come in around about the first of September and we set it up usually at the middle of September,” says Betty Harvey the KMART Store Manager.

Displaying Christmas items early allows shoppers to place items on layaway to prepare for the holidays.

“As the economy gets like it is now, people try to manage their money a little better and so what they do they use the layaway so they don’t have to pay the full amount and then by the time Christmas comes they have their gifts for the kids,” says Harvey.

Through Kmart’s free layaway, shoppers can place any item through the end of November on layaway. Making payments every few weeks helps shoppers avoid paying all at once.

Around the holidays, the store sees an increase in particular items that are popular for gifts.

“Electronics, is always a good thing and clothing, and the of department so those three departments we really have a boom in this time of year,” says Harvey.

Every year shoppers react the same way when they see Christmas decorations on display in September, but Betty says customers light up when they see Christmas items.

“They say Oh my goodness, it’s Christmas already? They do that, but they enjoy looking and the kids just love it,” says Harvey.

With KMART layaway, it requires a down payment and bi weekly payments for eight to twelve week contracts. All fees are non refundable there is a possibility you may charged for cancellation.
