Local sports editor charged with child sex crime

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – The newly promoted sports editor at The Commercial Dispatch in Columbus is facing a child sex crime charge stemming from Horn Lake.

Tuesday, Starkville Police arrested Ronald Walters, 47, on a warrant issued by the Horn Lake Police Department.

Captain Joseph Keene, with the Horn Lake Department, said the male juvenile and his parents filed a report in November of 2018.

Their investigation led to a search of Walters’ home in Starkville.

Keene said Walters was charged with Exploitation of a Child and confirmed the investigation revealed the contact began with electronic communication.

Walters is expected to be taken back to Horn Lake Wednesday afternoon.

He was promoted to sports editor at the Commercial Dispatch earlier Febuary. He’s worked for the paper since 2011.
