LOUISVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — When your head coach is eager to get on the field, you know it’s football time.

“It’s exciting to start,” head coach M.C. Miller said. “We’ve waited so long and you’re ready to go. All the guys are ready. We’re ready to go and you get excited when football season comes.”

And you know if The Toothpick is excited for football, then you better be excited too.

And the Wildcat fans at Louisville certainly are as this year’s PowerCats have the look of a Championship quality team who’s ready to play on the big stage.

“This team is ready for the big lights,” Miller said. “We thought we were ready last year but injuries killed our momentum. Now we have depth and we can get around any injuries we have.”

And what sets this year’s Louisville team apart is the team behind head coach MC Miller, and their belief that they’re closer than ever.

“It’s the chemistry,” junior Charles Moore said. “Everyone is together. We’re a family. It took time to build that. We’re brothers on the field and we have each other’s back. When you have that relationship with your brother, he will do his job and you’ll do your job and you have nothing to worry about.”

“Everybody is working hard every day,” senior Daylen Gill said. “Everybody is lifting hard. We’re great conditioning. All of it.”

“Everyone is buying in,” senior Jakob Cunningham said. “Everyone is doing their best work and trying their best.”

The positive vibes have the Wildcats talking up a State Championship, and Louisville is all over the Title talk.

“I really ain’t focused on State Championship. We’re focused game by game.”

“I don’t get into it. I don’t like to talk that stuff a lot.”

“No sir, I haven’t embraced the Championship talk.”

Louisville is definitely keeping quiet on the Title talk but the Wildcats know they have a special team and they prefer to keep their cards close to the vest. But coach Miller believes his team has embraced the Gold Ball hype.

“Every year, it’s our goal to get to the State Championship,” the coach said. “Last year, we didn’t make it but this year we’re planning on making it happen. These guys can handle critics. They can handle all that talk.”

Louisville will start the Grind for Nine on the road at Holmes County Central then return home to face West Point as they wrap up the month of August.
