LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – The man who escaped the Lowndes County jail is back in custody and a person has been arrested for allegedly helping him.

Terry Leshawn Brooks broke out of the Adult Detention Center on Halloween night.

At about 2 a.m., deputies and U.S. Marshals caught up with Brooks on Ninth Avenue North in Columbus.

He briefly ran from law enforcement but was quickly arrested.

The name of the person charged with harboring a fugitive has not been officially released.

Brooks was originally arrested in connection with the homicide of Frank Edwards in 2020 and charged with accessory after the fact of first-degree murder.

A second inmate, Phillip Shane House, also tried to escape with Brooks Tuesday night but was captured in the jail fences.

53-year-old Steven Jennings was charged with conspiracy to commit a crime for allegedly facilitating the escape attempt.
