Man accused of shooting Noxubee Sheriff’s son makes court appearance

MACON, Miss. (WCBI) – The man accused of shooting a sheriff’s son made his first court appearance in Macon Muncipal Court Thursday.

Bond was set at $350,000 dollars for David Hampton of Meridian.

Judge Tim Gowan set bond at $300,000 for the Attempted Murder charge and $50,000 for the Possession of a Weapon by a Convicted Felon charge.

The Mississippi Department of Corrections will place a hold on Hampton, meaning he will continue to stay in jail.

Hampton is accused of shooting Roman Mattox in the chest on December 21, near North and MLK Streets in Macon.

Police Chief Davine Beck said Jamesha Earvin and Terrence Fiffer are both being charged with Accessory after the Fact.
