Man charged with killing Tupelo cab driver pleads guilty

LEE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – The man charged with killing a Tupelo cab driver, execution style, pleads guilty to capital murder.

Leonta Gates, 25, was sentenced to life without parole.

He was also sentenced to 80 years for two counts of Armed Robbery.

District Attorney John Weddle says Gates called for a cab on May 13, 2016. The driver of the cab, Charlie Williams, was shot in the head.

Williams was found by motorcyclists on Graham Drive, just outside of Tupelo.

The cab was later found abandoned at a park.

Two days later Gates held up two people at a convience store and was caught a short time later.

Tupelo police and Lee County deputies investigated the cases.
