Marietta man indicted following Baldwyn student’s death

LEE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – Hunter Newman was indicted after being accused of hitting and killing a 9 year old Baldwyn boy as he was getting on a school bus.

The tragic incident happened on Halloween 2018 on Highway 370. Dalen Thomas was crossing the road to get on the bus when he was struck.

Newman’s attorney, Tony Farese, says it is his understanding that the 22-year-old man was indicted by a grand jury this week.

District Attorney John Weddle confirmed Newman has been indicted.

The Lee County Circuit Clerk’s office told WCBI the information will not be made public until Friday.

Newman was charged with Culpable Negligence Manslaughter.
