MDOT approves plan to start bridge & road repairs

JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI)- The Mississippi Department of Transportation approved money to help repair deteriorating bridges and crumbling roadways.

MDOT announced Tuesday funding for 163 Emergency Road and Bridge Repair Fund projects.

$250 million was approved Tuesday that will go to fixing or replacing 200 bridges, including 99 that are closed now and 91 that have posted weight restrictions.

Commissioner Mike Tagert said this is step in the right direction.

“We have $250 million that’s significant and needed for infrastructure improvements. We continue forward with just this project with $750 million in unfurnished projects,” said Commissioner Mike Tagert.

WCBI will speak with supervisors in our area to see where they plan to spend some of the money.
