MHP Investigating Hit and Run
WEBSTER COUNTY, Miss. (PRESS RELEASE) — The Mississippi Highway Patrol responded to a hit and run accident involving a pedestrian on US 82 near Tomnolen in Webster County, around 4:30 P.M. Wednesday afternoon, April 13th, 2016.
According to witnesses, a Silver Volvo Tractor Trailer (18 Wheeler) was traveling west on US 82 and struck a pedestrian that was walking west along US 82.
Witnesses stated that the 18 wheeler did not stop and continued west following the collision.
Two witnesses traveling behind the tractor trailer stopped to render first aid to the pedestrian, while two other witnesses continued to follow the tractor trailer into Montgomery County as well as alerting Law Enforcement of the accident and the tractor trailers current location.
The tractor trailer was stopped in Montgomery County by Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department.
The driver was detained until MHP arrived on scene.
The driver of the Silver Volvo, 47 year old Scott W. Mims of Cascilla, Mississippi was detained and questioned by MHP.
At this time no charges have been filed against Mr. Mims.
The facts and evidence regarding this accident will be presented to the Webster County Grand Jury at a later date.
The pedestrian, a 66 year old male, whose identity is not being released at this time was airlifted to North Mississippi Medical Center; he is listed in critical condition.
The accident remains under investigation by MHP.
