MHP preparing for Memorial Day Enforcement Period

With easing coronavirus restrictions and lower gas prices, the Mississippi Highway Patrol wanted to remind drivers of the Memorial Day Enforcement Period.

The enforcement period will start Friday, May 22 at 12:01 and ends May 25 at midnight.

MHP said it expected heavy traffic during the holiday weekend on Mississippi roadways.

Troopers will be watching for speeding and reckless driving. Drivers are also asked to avoid texting and driving and to also have a sober designated driver when necessary.

In 2019, MHP investigated 148 crashes, including one fatality, during the Memorial Day Enforcement Period.
