MHP stepping up patrols for Thanksgiving holiday

MISSISSIPPI (WCBI)- With Thanksgiving fast approaching many people are getting on the road to spend time with loved ones.

The Thanksgiving Holiday enforcement period begins Wednesday morning.

This year the Mississippi Highway Patrol will be participating in Operation Crash Awareness and Reduction Effort.

State troopers will be on high alert for speeding, seat-belt usage, and reckless driving.

Last year MHP investigated 163 crashes with 5 fatalities.

They also made 46 DUI arrests.

This year they are hoping motorists will take action to stay safe while traveling.
