MHSAA Releases Reclassification for 2017-19 Athletics Seasons

CLINTON, Miss. (WCBI) — Some major moves in the newest reclassification from the Mississippi High School Activities Association.

Every two years, the MHSAA re-classifies and redistributes their member schools due to fluctuations in student enrollment. After the 2016-17 school year, there will be new divisions and classes for a number of our area schools.

Below are the schools who are moving up or down in classification in the MHSAA’s newest reclassification:

Oxford: Going up from 5A to 6A

Lafayette: Going up from 4A to 5A

New Hope: Going down from 5A to 4A

Mooreville: Going up from 3A to 4A

Houston: Going down from 4A to 3A

Mantachie: Going up from 2A to 3A

New Site: Going down from 3A to 2A

Okolona: Going down from 2A to 1A

Within the moves of our area schools going up and down in classification, the MHSAA also shuffled up the regions within all of its sports. To see all of their division changes, you can go to the MHSAA’s website here: http://www.misshsaa.com/reclassification/

The changes made by the MHSAA to move teams is directly impacted on how football schools will go forward and who they will prepare to face in division play beginning in the 2017 season.
