Midas of Tupelo helps a local veteran through Project Spark

Active duty veteran gets refurbished vehicle just in time for Christmas holidays

TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – For Tech Sergeant Eric Faris, getting the keys to a refurbished Mazda CX 9 comes at just the right time.

“It is definitely a huge deal,” Tech Sgt. Faris said.
Tech Sergeant Faris works at the Air National Guard in Memphis. He makes the round-trip commute daily, in a car with nearly 400,000 miles. Now, he has reliable transportation and peace of mind.
“You definitely don’t want to be distracted; things can go wrong and turn into bad situations,” Faris said.
Brittany Faris said she is especially grateful for the gift.
“Less worrying about him driving so early in the morning, with no headlights, things not working, and it being dark,” she said.
In his spare time, Tech Sergeant Faris is known for helping other veterans, but he never mentions his need for reliable transportation. Now the community has stepped up and provided a vehicle worthy of his service and sacrifice.
“Veterans sacrifice, most of the time they put their head down and figure it out on their own, when you have an opportunity, and take it, I think that is great,” said Lee County Veterans Service Officer Ashleigh Pharr.
“It has been a mission from the beginning to be involved in the community and we want people to know when they come to support us, they support the community, as a default,” said Jason Weatherford, owner of Midas of Tupelo.
Cole Hughes is with pro touch mobile detailing. He is also a veteran. He said this project was an honor to be a part of.
“This one hits home, I’m honored to be part of it, it just hits home a little different,” Hughes said.
Once all the photos were taken and paperwork signed, Tech Sergeant Faris and his wife drove off to show off their new ride.
Nominations for the car giveaway are reviewed by a committee, and a winner is chosen. This is the third year for the event.
