Mississippi agriculture industry sees increase in value

JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI) – Mississippi’s agriculture industry saw a slight increase in value, thanks in part to $628 million dollars in federal payments.

Poultry production was down three percent across the state.

Overall totals for row crops dropped six and a half percent.

MSU Extension Service experts say the U.S. – China tariff standoff had a major impact on crop markets and production this year.

Cotton and soybeans had the largest relative losses.

Livestock production was down two percent, raking in an estimated 388 million.

There was a bright spot with catfish production up five percent.
