CLEVELAND, Miss. (WCBI) – Saturday’s grand opening of the Grammy Museum in Cleveland now brings more excitement and attraction to the Magnolia State.
“I think it’s gonna you know, do a lot for the delta, for the city of Cleveland, I think it’s gonna do good for the state of Mississippi,” said Kern Pratt.
Pratt has lived in the Mississippi his entire life, and said the state often receives a bad rap.
“The delta has gotten a bad rap for it’s crime and things like that,” said Pratt.
However, Pratt said with the opening of the museum, that could change people’s perception.
“I think the Delta is emerging as a new thing, I think people see the Delta differently,” said Pratt. “I think it’s gonna inspire people you know, Delta State, right across the street, it’s gonna inspire people to want to do better.”
And Saturday’s grand opening of the museum did just that, brought inspiration to current and prospective students.
“I mean it’s great, it’s great for the university, it’s a very big selling point for our university, by us being the only university in the United States to have this museum, it’s awesome,” said DSU student Derrick Bean.
Delta State University’s President Bill LaForge said the museum will be used as an educational resource for students.
“It’s going to be a part of our educational programs and a part of our cultural experiences,” said LeForge.
LaForge said the museum will work hand in hand with the university’s music program.
“I’ve already gotten some gigs running sound here, it’s gonna be great, I’ll have exchange opportunities for the one in Los Angeles, it’s a game changer,” said DSU student Justin Boatman.
LaForge also said the museum is a nice attraction to show prospective students on their visits.
“This will help seal the deal, this will help get them here,” said LeForge.
LaForge said the museum will provide intern opportunities for students.
Delta State is currently on their spring break, but once classes resume, students will be able to tour and use the museum.
