Monroe County shooting suspect charged with murder

MONROE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – The suspect in a Monroe County shooting has been charged with murder, even though he remains in the hospital.

Investigators said the 87-year-old victim had apparently been dead for a few days.

Monroe County deputies were called Sunday around 12:30 p.m. to a house in the Wren Community.

Sheriff Kevin Crook said deputies went to Central Grove Road where they found a man injured from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital. He was the suspect in the shooting

Inside the home, they found the body of Geraldine Demathieu. She died from a gunshot wound.

Crook was not releasing the suspect’s name at this time.
