AMORY, Miss. (WCBI) —
One local school district is in need of repairs and it will be up to the community to determine the funding.
Monroe County schools Superintendent, Scott Cantrell says the district’s schools are in dire need of repairs. He’s hoping this bond proposal will make it happen.
Between painting, roofing, flooring, and new parking lots these are just some of the projects the school district needs done. This is why the district leaders have made a $10-million request from the county.
Cantrell says he understands that might seem like a lot of money, however, given the amount of projects needed for the campuses, he says it is a reasonable request.
“Some may ask where you derived a 10-million-dollar figure… that’s just based off of construction estimates and a list of needs and applying those estimates to it.” said Cantrell.
Larger projects include pavement improvements, additional classroom space and athletic field lighting.
According to Cantrell, these projects can cost up to two-hundred-thousand-dollars… money that can come from these bonds.
Community members agree that classroom space is important for everyone in the classroom.
Susan Howell, a Monroe County resident is one of them.
“Teachers need a little bit more room to work. The more room, the better they can move around and assist the children as they need to.” said Howell.
Residents go to the polls August 16th.
