MS Bureau of Investigation takes over officer-involved shooting case in Byhalia

BYHALIA, Miss. (WCBI) – The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation has taken over an officer-involved shooting case in Byhalia.
CBS affiliate WREG in Memphis reports Byhalia Police were called to a home on Church Street around 11 pm on Saturday, August 8.
The caller said a woman had been shot, and there was an armed man inside.
A person in the house reportedly opened fire on police with a semi-automatic rifle, but officers were able to get two adults and a child out of the house.
They told police a woman had been shot and killed inside.
SWAT teams from DeSoto and Marshall Counties were called in.
Negotiators tried to get the suspect, identified as Russell L. Kelly, Junior to come out of the house, but they say he refused and continued to fire at officers.
After a nearly 10-hour standoff with Kelly firing shots, an officer fired at Kelly, killing him.
It is not known which department the officer was with.
MBI has taken over the investigation.
