Murder trial finds defendant guilty, sentenced to 70 years

WINSTON COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – Jurors sentence a Winston County murder suspect to 70 years.

Kevin LaDexter Carter was found guilty Monday.

Carter faced Possession of a Weapon by a Felon, Aggravated Assault and Murder charges.

Prosecutors called at least three witnesses to the stand, including a person that was in the home at the time Angela Collier, 39, was shot and killed.

“We’re very satisfied with the verdict of the jury and sentence of the judge. And we’re glad that Mr. Carter won’t be able to beat or batter anymore women while he’s incarcerated,” said Asst. District Attorney Jay Howard.

A neighbor also testified.

The shooting happened near Noxapater in February 2017.

Carter eventually turned himself in to a Leake County deputy, after a week long manhunt.

The trial started Monday morning.
