MUW Women To Face New 7-Seed In USCAA Tournament

COLUMBUS, Miss. (MUW Athletics) – The Owl women’s basketball team will now play Silver Lake College in the first round of the USCAA Women’s Division I Basketball Tournament. Florida College rejected its bid to the tournament causing a shift in the bracket.

The W (18-6) still holds the number two seed but will now play the new number seven seed Silver Lake College (8-22) on Thursday, March 7 in the Penn State Fayette Main Arena. The game will be streamed at basketball.theuscaa.com and will tip-off at 2 p.m. ET/ 1 p.m. CT.

The Lakers are ranked top eight in several categories among USCAA members including points, three-pointers made, three-pointers attempted, three-point percentage, defensive rebounds, and assists and they hold the number one spot in blocks. Hailee Kotche, senior forward, leads Silver Lake’s offense averaging 14.1 points per game, 11.1 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 1.8 blocks per contest.

In its first season in 15 years, The W will make its first appearance in the USCAA tournament. Junior forward Qiayon Bailey leads the Owls offense averaging 15.0 points per game and 7.0 rebounds per game. Junior center Keyahna Jones has tallied nine double-doubles this season and leads the team in rebounds. She averages 8.5 points per game and 10.2 rebounds.

The winner of the Owls/Lakers game will advance to face the winner of the No. 3 seed Paul Quinn vs. No. 6 seed Carlow University game which will tip-off at 10 a.m. ET/ 9 a.m. CT.
