New US Marshal Confirmed By Senate For Northern Mississippi

OXFORD, Miss. (AP) – Daniel McKittrick of Etta has been confirmed as the new U.S. Marshal for northern Mississippi.

U.S. Senators confirmed McKittrick Thursday on a unanimous voice vote.

As marshal, McKittrick is responsible for protecting federal judges, catching fugitives, housing and transporting prisoners, managing seized assets and protecting witnesses.

McKittrick has been chief U.S. probation officer for the Northern District of Mississippi since 2007. He joined the U.S. Probation Service in 1991, after 12 years with the state prison system.

U.S. Sens. Thad Cochran and Roger Wicker, both Republicans, recommended McKittrick.

The Northern District of Mississippi covers 37 counties.
