Normal Comes Back To New Hope

NEW HOPE, Miss. (WCBI) – Normal attendance and routine are returning to New Hope School after a threat made over the weekend.

Empty classrooms and hallways are once again being filled by students as the investigation by Lowndes County deputies draws to a close.

Attendance only reached 25% Monday due to a threat made on social media Sunday night, with only 170 of 800 students showing up for class.

Initially, investigators interviewed eight juveniles as persons of interest in the case.

Superintendent Lynn Wright says he’s pleased with how the sheriff’s department handled the situation but it’s a learning experience for everybody.

“Well, we’ll review the situation, same as the sheriff’s department will, how it was addressed. Right now, it still hasn’t been brought to conclusion yet but the sheriff’s department has told us from the evidence they’ve received there appears to be no credible threat,” says Wright.

The increase in security at all Lowndes County Schools will continue in the coming days as a precaution.
