North Carolina fourth graders receives gifts city of Tupelo

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – A North Carolina fourth grader is getting help on his school project from the All America City.

Recently, Josh Martin wrote the local newspaper, asking for help with a project on Mississippi.

Tupelo Mayor Jason Shelton saw the letter to the editor and responded.

With help from the city, individuals and businesses, a package full of Mississippi and Tupelo themed products has been sent to Josh for his school project on the Magnolia State.

Josh will receive a variety of items, such as an arrowhead from councilman Buddy Palmer, a certificate from Congressman Trent Kelly and many more surprises, along with some Elvis themed items.

“We appreciate any opportunity that we have to showcase the amazing history of the city of Tupelo and our great state, and this is just a fun way to do that, be able to almost do a scavenger hunt, locally,” said Mayor Shelton.

“We have a little postcard, with a personal note, we also sent some Tupelo playing cards, a shirt that says “You had me at Mississippi,” not only a chance to show young people what Mississippi is about, but also Tupelo,” said The Farmhouse employee Amy Dixon.

The fourth grader’s project is part of a lesson on each state in the country.
