One arrested in Clay County shooting that left three injured

CLAY COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – Clay County investigators continued to investigate a weekend shooting that left three injured and one person faced charges.

Gene Sparks, 48, was charged with three counts of aggravated assault.

Sheriff Eddie Scott said the shooting happened around 4 p.m. Saturday near a home on Happy Hollow Road- close to the Chickasaw County line.

Two gunshot victims were taken to the hospital in West Point. A third person was sent to a hospital in Tupelo.

The sheriff said a woman was also assaulted during the shooting. Officers believed she was hit in the stomach.

Sheriff Scott said they believe the altercation happened in the roadway adjoining the suspect’s home.

Investigators were still trying to figure out a possible motive.
