Video: Organization’s Response to Disaster
COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – When disasters and storms strike, organizations like Salvation Army step up and help.
As Hurricane Irma is brewing, the Salvation Army is preparing.
Irma will strike days after Hurricane Harvey.
Relief efforts are continuing in Texas and Louisiana for disaster victims, and with Irma on the way, organizations are having to prep for another natural disaster within days of each other.
The Salvation Army has a strategic national plan in place anytime a storm or disaster happens.
Columbus Commanding Officer Lt. Jennifer Graham says another disaster will be a second power, meaning relief efforts will be increased.
“At this point, we’re taking it day by day because we really don’t know what we will need, until the disaster actually effects this local area and then we’re able to assess what’s going on and then, we’re able to get with the other organizations to see, okay, what all do we need to do, to come together to provide the needs that are needed at that time.”
Graham says although relief efforts will increase when Irma hits, it won’t impact Columbus residents getting the help they need from their local command.
She also says Salvation Army is still taking monetary donations for Hurricane Harvey victims.
There are four ways to donate.
(1.) You can donate online with helpsalvationarmy.org
