Panel Picked To Hear Roy Moore Appeal

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) – The governor has established the court to hear the appeal of suspended Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore, who was taken off the bench for an order he issued about gay marriage.

Gov. Robert Bentley signed an order Monday appointing seven retired judges to a special court for the appeal.

The seven were chosen by random and agreed to serve. They will constitute a special Supreme Court to consider whether the Court of the Judiciary handled Moore’s case properly.

The members include: H. Edward McFerrin; who presided in Butler, Crenshaw and Lowndes counties; Robert G. Cahill of Jefferson County; William R. King of Crenshaw County; James H. Reid Jr. of Baldwin County; Lynn Clardy Bright of Montgomery; Ralph A. Ferguson Jr. of Jefferson County; and John D. Coggin of Cherokee County.
