STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI/MSU Athletics) – After becoming the first Southeastern Conference player in nearly five years to account for six-plus touchdowns in a conference game, Mississippi State senior quarterback Dak Prescott was named SEC Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday. The accolade is the fourth time Prescott has been named SEC Offensive Player of the Week, a new school record.

The Haughton, Louisiana, native had the best game of his career in the 42-16 home win against Kentucky this past Saturday, finishing 25-of-35 through the air for 348 yards and three touchdowns. The team captain also rushed for a season-high 117 yards and three touchdowns. By tying Jackie Parker’s school record of six touchdowns responsible set in November 1952, Prescott became the first SEC player since Heisman Trophy winner Cam Newton in the 2010 SEC Championship Game to account for six-plus scores in a league game.

The first player in school history to throw for over 300 yards and rush for over 100 yards in the same game, Prescott joined Texas A&M’s Johnny Manziel and Clemson’s Tajh Boyd as the only FBS quarterbacks in the last 15 years with 348-plus passing yards, 100-plus rushing yards, three passing touchdowns and three rushing touchdowns in a single game.

For the season, Prescott is 173-of-260 passing for 2,048 yards, 14 touchdowns and one interception. On the ground, he has rushed 72 times for 371 yards and seven scores. Prescott is one of two FBS players with at least 14 passing touchdowns and seven rushing scores (Patrick Mahomes, Texas Tech).

After breaking or tying three more against the Wildcats, Prescott currently owns 36 school records (7 single-game, 15 single-season, 14 career). Last week he became the 17th player in FBS history and the third player in SEC history to amass 7,000-plus career passing yards and 2,000-plus career rushing yards, making him the only active FBS player with those numbers.
