Rainy End to the Week

COLUMBUS, Mississippi (WCBI) — After a week filled with sunshine and blisteringly hot temperatures, rainy and stormy conditions will be rolling through today and tomorrow. While it won’t be super pleasant to spend much time outside this weekend, that rain is definitely much needed to combat these persistent dry conditions we’ve been experiencing lately. It will help to lower those temperatures a bit as well.

FRIDAY: There is a 60% chance of showers and thunderstorms for today. This will ramp up in the late morning hours and stick around through the afternoon and evening. Most of these storms will be scattered in nature, but some could cluster together and become more intense, especially closer to the stationary front that is situated near the Mississippi-Tennessee state line. Because of this, a Level 1 “Marginal” risk for severe weather is in effect for the northern and western portions of our area for some isolated damaging wind gusts. Apart from the numerous scattered thunderstorms, there may be some breaks in the clouds for the sun to shine through at some points. The high temperature for today will be around 91°, with a peak heat index around 99°. Winds are out of the south-southeast at 5 mph.

FRIDAY NIGHT: Showers and possible thunderstorms will continue through the evening and overnight into Saturday. Rainfall should be a bit lighter overnight than during the daytime hours. The low temperature will be 72°, with south-southeasterly winds.

SATURDAY: Rainy conditions and thunderstorms will continue to persist all day long. Some of these scattered storms could produce some locally-heavy rainfall, especially in the morning and early afternoon. Towards the late afternoon and evening, showers and storms will still be possible, but they will become more isolated in nature. The high temperature will be about 93°, with heat index values possibly reaching 101°. Winds will be out of the southwest at 5 mph.
