Report: Johnthan Banks to Sign with Houston Texans

HOUSTON, Tx. (WCBI) — One former area star is returning to the gridiron.

Former East Webster Wolverine and Mississippi State Bulldog will be joining the Houston Texans according to the Houston Chronicle’s Aaron Wilson.

Banks, the 2012 Thorpe Award Winner, was drafted in the 2nd round by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 2013 NFL Draft. He played three strong seasons with the Bucs where he tallied 109 tackles and 7 interceptions.

After being traded to the Detroit Lions, Banks spent time with the Chicago Bears where he was released on September 2nd after not making the final cuts for the 53 man roster.

Banks is a needed addition for the Texans, who lost defensive backs Johnathan Joseph and Kevin Johnson to injury in Thursday’s win over the Bengals.
