BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WCBI/Ole Miss Athletics) – Ole Miss freshman Robert Nkemdiche was named Southeastern Conference Defensive Lineman of the Week after a breakout performance against Troy, the league office announced Monday.

Starting at defensive tackle, Nkemdiche led an Ole Miss defense that held Troy to -13 rushing yards in a 51-21 win.

It marked the first time an opponent has failed to break even rushing against the Rebels since Mississippi State in 2008 (-64).

The 6-foot-5, 294-pound rookie finished with four tackles, including two tackles for loss and his first career sack along with a QB pressure.

Nkemdiche, a preseason SEC Freshman of the Year pick by some publications, leads all SEC freshmen with 0.88 tackles for loss per outing.

Just think what he could have done in a defense like Alabama’s, young man made the wrong choice and it will cost him millions in the draft and for years down the road.
The Ole Miss Black Bears are not a spring board to the NFL……sad but true, live and learn.
