Smithville Hires Michael Campbell as Head Football Coach

SMITHVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — A new coach takes over the Noles.

Michael Campbell was named the head football coach at Smithville High on Wednesday, confirmed by the school. Campbell succeeds Chad Collums, who left to be the head coach at Raleigh.

Campbell spent last season as co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Tupelo.

Under his direction, the Golden Wave averaged 31 points per game during the 2016 season and quarterback Stephon McGlaun broke onto the scene as a sophomore passing for 11 touchdowns and 3 interceptions.  Tupelo finished the season with a 12-1 record and were division champions for the first time since 1999.

A Mississippi State graduate, Michael Campbell has had previous coaching stops at New Hope, Itawamba AHS, Hatley and Houston.

Campbell will be officially introduced on Friday at Smithville High School.
