SOURCES: Ricky Woods Expected to be New Head Football Coach at Eupora

EUPORA, Miss. (WCBI) — A coming home story is coming to fruition.

Multiple sources have confirmed to WCBI that current Starkville High head football coach Ricky Woods is expected to be named the new head football coach at Eupora High School.

Sources say that Woods is stepping down from his position at Starkville at the end of the semester and will take over at Eupora in January. The move is centered around being closer to family in the Webster County area.

Eupora’s current head football coach Stephen Edwards has been offered the defensive coordinator position on the new coaching staff according to our information and is expected to stay but that has not yet been confirmed.

Woods has spent the last two seasons as the head coach of the Starkville Yellowjackets, guiding the school to the 2015 6A State Championship. He coached at Eupora from 1990 to 1994, leading the Eagles to an appearance in the 2A South half final in 1993.

Woods is well known around the state for being the head coach at South Panola from 2002 to 2006. During that stretch, the Tigers won 60 consecutive games and Woods finished his time in Batesville with a 74-1 overall coaching record.

Calls to Starkville, Eupora and coaches at both schools were not returned as of Wednesday afternoon.
