Southern Miss Suspends Quarterback

Southern Mississippi quarterback Anthony Alford has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault by university police following a fight on campus.

Police say no one was injured in the altercation, which involved four people, including two who were not students at Southern Miss. The school released a statement saying Alford has been suspended from the university until he can have a hearing through the school’s judicial process.

Another student was arrested and charged with felony possession of a weapon on campus by a student. The incident happened at about 11 a.m. on Wednesday.

Alford played in nine games this season, starting five. He led the team with 664 passing yards, two touchdowns and four interceptions. He also was third on the team with 329 rushing yards and six touchdowns.
