Starkville Aldermen have begun negotiations with Sports Facility Management

The City of Starkville may soon be outsourcing some of its recreation activities.

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – The City of Starkville may soon be outsourcing some of its recreation activities.

Last week, Starkville Aldermen voted to begin negotiations with Sports Facility Management to take over the management of all the city’s parks.

Sports Facility Management is already managing Starkville’s new Cornerstone Park and coordinating with Starkville Parks and Recreation.

City leaders think the partnership could improve the quality of recreation opportunities in Starkville.

“We have been focusing on soccer and basketball, the usual, the basics, but I think they have a wider reach, and I think there will be some greater opportunities for our youth to enjoy options that they haven’t had before. I think that’s really one of the important things about them as well as bringing in what I perceive a very professional approach to sports and recreation in general,” said Mayor Lynn Spruill.

The city will also explore if an agreement would require a new contract with Sports Facility Management or just changes to the current agreement.
