Starkville Mayor Lynn Spruill gives State of the City address

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – “Starkville is in great shape.” That’s what Mayor Lynn Spruill said at her State of the City address as the guest speaker for Starkville Rotary Club.

Spruill hit on several topics of upgrades and initiatives throughout the city.

The Mayor of Starkville also discussed what the future of the college town could look like while displaying virtual designs of the layout.

Spruill said the future of Starkville lies in planning for the future.

“In particiular our infrastucture. That is the type of thing that will ruin your roads. You just put in a brand new layer of asphalt and then your water line causes you to dig it up. So, we are trying to be very proactive about what we can do to make sure when we put an asset down like a road that we have taken care of what is underneath it. And so those types of things are the approach that I want to be sure that people understand. While downtown is torn up right now, it is because we are replacing infrastructure and it’s going to get better. When it does, it’s going to have 75 years of good infrastructure which we don’t have to worry about it. So, I’m just really excited about how we are being progressive,” said Spruill.

The Mayor said it takes everyone working together to continue building up Starkville.
