Stolen check cashing scheme leads to 5 burglary arrests

LAFAYETTE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – A stolen check cashing scheme led to five burglary arrests.

The investigation started back in November when Lafayette County deputies were called to First National Bank because two people were allegedly attempting to cash a stolen check.

A number of stolen checks had been cashed in the area around that time.

Heather Schmidt and Romira Coba were arrested that day.

As the investigation continued, the other arrests were made.

Deputies found a house, near Highway 315, that was used for storage and was burglarized and they were taken.

Schmidt and Coba are facing multiple charges.

All of those arrested were charged with burglary.
